The World According To Emirates

Disability

Write a reflection about what you have learnt by watching the videos about people with disabilities. Give some examples of how things are changing for people with disabilities in the UAE.
There are many children born with disabilities in their life. They might have physical or mental problem. Also, disable children may become better than normal people if they were treated well. People must respect these children in order to improve society.

There was a video with an amazing engineer called Richie Parker. He has born with no arms on Beaufort coast. Rich’s parents work hard in order to make his life easier. Richie believed that he can do like any normal person. He works design racing car components on Hendricks Motorsports. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-o8a18bcGo

Another video with autistic girl express unimaginable intelligence called Carly. She has born on Toronto. Carly couldn’t talk so she does weird behavior. Until she rent a computer for express her feeling by typing. Also, it helps her to communicate with other people. Carly talks to her father after long time ago. He hopes that his daughter accomplishes goals in her life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNZVV4Ciccg

In the United Arab Emirates, there are a lot of children has disability. In different situation there are hidden because for embarrassing. The government encourages this part by technology help so they make them visible. I see many people that don’t have legs in the country. But, some of them have strong memory.

In conclusion, children around the world have problems. It could be either mind or body problem. They could lead the country to be successful.

Blue Eyes, Brown Eyes

Class Divided – Blue Eyes, Brown Eyes
1.     Where, when and with whom did this experiment take place?
2.     Why is the year 1968 important in the history of CivilRights/Racial Discrimination in the USA?
3.     Describe the experiment.
4.     What were the results?
5.     Your observations.

The experiment begins by Ms. Elliott on primary school in 1970. The civil rights act in 1968 by Martin King which contain that barring discrimination against black people on education, treatment and rent houses. The experiment goal was teaching children treat everyone equal. First, Ms. Elliot has separate class depend on student’s eyes into two categories blue and brown. Then, she treats blue eye students better than brown eye students on first lesson of brotherhood week. She gave them extra playing time while other groups don’t play with them. After that, Ms. Elliot notice that blue eye students change into nasty behavior. Then, on the second lesson she tell them that it was lie and give the right to brown eye group to play and be respected. The result was that each student put the color ribbon in garbage. Also, they learn that treat people like what you want to be treated. My view is the experiment was successful and teaches me that discrimination, racism can destroy the society.

Individual Reflection

I have learned a lot of things and my mind has opened widely cause of this course. I’ve learned about things I never thought about. I learned that no matter what our origin is and despite our differences we have to respect and tolerate each other because in the end we are all the same. Garden salad and melting pot, two new phrases that caught my attention and made me think more about the world. I learned so many new useful words lately cause of this course, I learned that we should be awake and focus on our lives more than judging people. When I attended the first lesson, I thought that I know everything about my country, but it seems like I have to research more and more. The course opened my mind into other cultures and it showed me that even though people are different, but we still shouldn’t judge them.
